Microscopic endodontics is a modern method of root canal treatment. It uses local anaesthesia. The microscope allows for a more thorough cleaning of the canals, which provides a better chance of preserving the tooth and does not require filling the cavity after it.
What is microscopic endodontics?
Endodontics is a department of conservative dentistry, which includes the diagnosis and treatment of changes in the tooth pulp (heavily innervated tissue filling the interior of the tooth, including canals) and periapical tissues (bone tissues that surround the hole in the root of the tooth). Root canal treatment is usually applied here, which consists in removing the diseased pulp from the root canal, filling it and sealing it. Microscopic endodontics allows for a very thorough analysis of the condition of the tooth. Root canal treatment under a microscope in the city is carried out with the use of modern equipment, among others in the renowned clinic. It allows to see the whole system of canals inside the tooth. The microscope makes it easier to clean and maintain a natural tooth. This reduces the risk of a denture or implant. With standard endodontics, treatment is hindered by curved roots, congruent or narrow canals, as well as by the specific anatomical structure of the tooth. Moreover, sometimes it is not possible to find all the canals without a microscope. It happens that the tools used during the procedure break down. Microscopic treatment eliminates these difficulties.
Root canal treatment – stages
Root canal treatment under a microscope does not differ much from the traditional methods used in endodontics. The course of the visit is as follows:
The doctor places the microscope on the arm over the patient’s head – the device enables to see the inside of the tooth;
Then the endodontist gives the patient local anaesthesia;
The specialist isolates the tooth from the rest of the oral cavity by inserting a cofferdam (a thin sheet of silicone rubber, called saliva protection, which replaces lignin rollers absorbing saliva) and protects the patient from swallowing drugs or materials used for treatment;
The doctor opens the tooth and removes the pulp from it, so that it can enter the canals;
The dentist cleans the canals thoroughly by removing the inflamed pulp and replacing it with a filling;
The endodontist dries the root canals;
then the doctor fills the inside of the tooth with a plastic material that will tightly cover the cleaned areas;
The last step is to apply a primer separating the canals from the filling and the filling itself.
Root canal treatment – price
A sick tooth may be treated in public or private clinics. Root canal treatment in the National Health Fund is reimbursed for 12 front teeth: from one to three. Free endodontics is available to pregnant women, women in childbirth, children and adolescents up to 18 years of age. The only limitation is the number of canals: you can treat no more than 3 canals in one tooth. The cost of private endodontics is about 500-2000 USD, depending on whether the tooth has one or more roots.
