Japanese cuisine has gained many supporters around the world. Currently, it is considered to be one of the most popular and healthy cuisines in the world.
It is based on natural and fresh products with simple processing. Since the Japanese try to limit various types of spices in order not to interfere with the naturalness of dishes, it is characterized by a delicate and balanced taste.
Ingredients of Japanese dishes
Traditional Japanese cuisine is extremely varied and offers a large number of dishes. Among them there are a few that are particularly popular, such as sushi, which is often chosen by the Japanese themselves.
Rice is of course one of the basic ingredients of the prepared dishes, but pasta also plays an important role. In addition, fish and crabs, vegetables, seaweed, mushrooms, tofu and meat are used.
Sushi – number one
The most popular Japanese dish is of course sushi. Its basic ingredient is boiled rice seasoned with rice vinegar, and also various – usually raw – additives, such as fish, seafood and seaweed, vegetables or tofu. This dish is served with soy sauce, in which pieces of sushi are dipped. A bit of hot green wasabi horseradish is also added to liven up the taste.
This dish is available in many varieties, and the most famous of them are:
nigiri – rice formed into oval sticks and covered with a piece of fish, under which there is a bit of wasabi,
poppies – rice rollers wrapped in pressed algae, containing various types of additives inside.
Not only sushi
Traditional Japanese cuisine is also a very popular dish. They include, among others:
onigiri – a dish made of rice formed into an oval or triangular shape, sometimes wrapped in a piece of seaweed and stuffed with e.g. eggs, fish or shrimps,
dango – small dumplings made from rice flour, stuck on sticks, which may be used as a dessert,
daifuku – dumplings made from rice dough and stuffed with sweet red bean paste,
Ramen – a dish consisting of pasta, broth and, depending on the recipe, many other ingredients, most often fish and vegetables.
It’s worth knowing that Japanese cuisine is also a real feast for the eyes, because besides the smells and flavors of dishes, the appearance and the way they are served are also important. Masters of Japanese cuisine are true virtuosos. Dishes prepared and served are very aesthetically pleasing.
However, the most important advantage of Japanese dishes are the ingredients – fresh and healthy. Thanks to them, each meal provides a solid dose of vitamins.
