VoIP gateways can certainly be divided into two groups: those that have one or two ports of the FXS type and those that have more than one port: four, eight and more. One-port gateways are much less common on the market than two-port gates, which are more willingly used by users to create telephone lines based on VoIP technology.
VoIP gateways with two FXS ports are a perfect solution for home users and small offices. They can be connected to two phones and conduct two independent phone calls at the same time. They can also be connected to a telephone exchange, to its analog ports of city lines, so that the users of such a telephone exchange from their internal numbers can have access to calls made via the Internet.

However, although such gateways are usually used in homes or small offices due to the small number of telephone ports, they are often used in larger organisations as well. This is mainly due to the fact that even if one device is damaged, another device remains in use and Internet connectivity can still be implemented. In addition, a company or organization is given the freedom to manage devices and move them freely to different locations, e.g. to other branches of the company or to place them in different rooms depending on the needs. However, it also has a certain minus, because all the gates need to be connected to the power, so you need to provide more outlets for the power supplies of these devices, you also need to provide the right number of Ethernet ports, for example in a switch or router with active access to the Internet, which in its entirety can increase the cost of investment. From an investment point of view, there will not be too much difference in the purchase of several two-port gates or one gateway with the corresponding number of voice ports in a larger device. It should also be remembered that in such a situation it is necessary to program several devices, not one, which may affect the time of implementation.
