Noise when driving – what does it mean?
As you know, a good vehicle never makes noise. Any suspicious noise that is made while driving or working at idle is a warning signal for us. This may indicate a problem that needs to be solved. Disturbing noise is a harbinger of a serious accident, and ignoring it can seriously deplete our wallet.
Each vehicle makes a number of different sounds, but one of the most disturbing is noise. Most often it is caused by small things, but they can mean the beginning of big problems with the transmission or the driving system.
The first thing that causes little noise may be a defective gasket in the door. The seals are responsible for protecting the interior of our cab against external noise. When they are very worn out, much more noise is emitted into the interior of the vehicle – one of which can be noise when driving at higher speeds.
Another source of noise while driving can be roof racks, which are attached to rails. When they are not needed for transport, it is advisable to remove them. Sometimes the roof racks are noisy or simply not mounted correctly.
A roof antenna can also be a source of disturbing sounds – it all depends on its shape and whether it is properly fitted. If necessary, another antenna with a different shape or inclination may be used.
Very often you can encounter noise, which during the ride is generated by the windscreens. The reason for such inaccuracy may be that the upper part of the glass after closing does not come into contact with the gasket. This may also be due to a misaligned or fixed windscreen or a problem with the guide.
If, when driving at higher speeds, a humming sound comes from around the wheels, it is recommended that you stop the vehicle and check the pressure condition of each tyre. When the pressure in the wheels is low, it is important to compensate for this. If this noise returns after a while, visit a workshop – tyre repair will be short and will not burden your wallet significantly and may prevent you from having a serious accident.
Another reason may be wheel bearings. They need to be checked frequently, i.e. on average after 100,000 kilometres. Of course, everything depends on the condition of our car, its age and the manufacturer. Apart from that, the life of the bearing also depends on proper operation and properly set geometry. If noise is generated during cornering, it is a sign that the bearings in our car may have been damaged.
Deaf noise from around the gearbox with the clutch pressed down means that the clutch bearing is failing. The noise generated in this area means that the gearbox bearings are worn out. At first, it can only noise when accelerating and braking with the motor, but with time, such noise becomes louder and louder. In this case, the vehicle must be returned to a workshop immediately.
The driver should always be sensitive to any sound and noise that the vehicle is about to generate. This will allow you to quickly eliminate a harmless problem from the start, which can grow to a huge size that is extremely costly to repair.
